Review of Harlem Nights (1989) by Kip C — 20 Jun 2007
Yeah, it could have been a better film, but for the only time on screen together, Redd Foxx, Eddie Murphy and Richard Pryor. I understand that much of the banter throughout the film (especially between Della Reese and Foxx) was ad-libbed--which certainly shows their innate comic genius.
Some of the bit parts (like Samuel L. Jackson and Arsenio Hall) was a bit hard to watch, but overall, there were lots of very funny scenes. Also, this is one of the few movies that comedian Robin Harris played the straight man in a minor role.
Yeah, it could have been better, but I was not disappointed at all.
