Review of Hard Boiled (1992) by Fernando R — 27 Mar 2008
Despite the hype this film gets from its fans, I couldn't help but find it a little overrated. The story feels padded for the 2 hours that's allocated to it and the action that holds the story is loaded to the point of losing it's magic for all but the most dedicated action fans.
However, action is magnificently staged with some beautiful Woo trademarks popping in and a wry sense of humor its insane gunplay and the cinematography is Hong Kong cinema at it's best. Furthermore, the film's importance in the furthering of Chow Yun Fat's career to stronger films and especially the influence it has held on just about every action movie made in the past ten years has solidified its place in history.
