Review of Hard Boiled (1992) by The R — 02 Sep 2009
A solid actioner from director John Woo. While the plot and characters aren't terribly interesting, with the exception of the two leads (Chow Yun Fat channels Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry as a cop with a shoot-first-ask-questions-later attitude), and the attempts to get us emotionally involved come off as half-assed more than anything, the action scenes are spectacular, most notably the hospital shootout that forms the film's climax, and transform this otherwise uninteresting film into a beautiful ballet of blood and bullets.
Necessary viewing for action fans.
