Review of Harakiri (1962) by Ben W — 25 Mar 2010
An explosive samurai film. one of those experiences that announces what it is about at the beginning and then proceeds to beat you in the head with it for the next 2 and half hours. in the best way possible.
there are some of the most genuinely unsettling moments in this film, most notably the bamboo harakiri scene. kobaysashis critical eye stares you straight in the face when unabashedly denouncing the social structures of the period and the over-exertion of authority.
great performances, great sets, amazing camerawork. excellent film.
