Review of Harakiri (1919) by Curtis R — 26 Sep 2010
The ancient practice of hara-kiri is merely the centerpiece of this wonderful film about a destitute ronin seeking revenge against a sadistic clan he holds responsible for the death of his son-in-law which indirectly results in the deaths of his daughter and grandson.
Tatsuya Nakadai who played the gunfighting rival to Toshiro Mifune in the classic "Yojimbo", hams it up Mifune style as the gruff weary samurai Hanshiro Tsugumo. It is a little heavy on melodrama before it gets to the action but when it does, its pretty cool.
