Just reading the description of the plot of this movie should send out some serious red flags as, on paper, it sounds like a terribly pretentious indie film with an oppressive amount of quirk. And while it crosses that line on occasion, it never falls over that cliff, thanks largely to good performances and some good insights.

This is nothing like real life, but it works on a film level and keeps potential obnoxiousness at a minimum.
