Review of Happy Birthday to Me (1981) by Jose M — 28 Jan 2010
When I was done watching Happy Birthday to Me, I began to think about life, philosiphy, and logic. Some of these thoughts came about in the movie. No, there is no philosophy in the film like the Matrix, but instead, it made me think 'is that possible?' Oh yes, the film is filled with nonsense thus is how I began to think about logic and philosophy. I thought at one point, "Can you really slit someone's throat with one try?".
Although it would be rather criminal for me to try it, it did gave me something to think about. Also, the plot has a lot of holes in there that we are left guessing until something pops out and tells us the answer. It is like doing a test with mutiple choice and failing it because there is no 'z' to circle or color. I was entertained by some bizarre human relations and the desperate mother, but the film makes no sense and has characters that I don't care. Plust, to add, the bizarre murders are not so strange (a little funny) and there is no T&A (other ingredient to slasher films).
There is some nice direction, but overall, it is something I will not recommend, not even for five dollars. I knew I would regret it. Not even for a birthday prank.
