Review of Hannibal Rising (2007) by Lucas Y — 08 May 2011
I've never really questioned the writers of the Hannibal Lecter books until now. This film was indeed quite faithful to the book, but suffers on multiple levels. It's a big cliche. A future serial killer is driven by a traumatic childhood. From there on it's Kill Bill volume 3. I would've liked to see a lot more med school. I would've liked a more believable motive for Lecter. This film makes the entire franchise suffer.
I haven't seen anything else Gaspard Ulliel has acted in. He seems to be an alright actor, but these shoes were just too big to fill. I don't know if anyone could have played young Hannibal though.
