Review of Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) by Kate P — 11 Jun 2009
So I turned this on TCM intending to watch the beginning and maybe watch some more later...and could not stop. I was pulled in and it is absolutely brilliant. At times sometimes TOO unnervingly close to life.
..piercingly accurate characters, especially if you have sisters....seriously. Everyone is amazing...Dianne Wiest is perfect, Mia Farrow makes sense of the whole thing...even Michael Caine's character is sympathetic.
This writing is unbelievable. How Woody Allen manages to break all the rules and still make an unbelievable film is a testament to his talent as writer, and his love of movies. And people. And the world.
And he lets us all love these things, too, no matter what choices characters make or mental places they go. Geez. What an incredibly great movie.
