Review of Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) by Michael M — 06 Aug 2013
How could I dislike a reference to Tolstoy? Besides (despite my dislike for this tactic of outlining the thoughts of the characters), Hannah and her sisters have a really strong script to boast. This is a rare moment (maybe it's the only instance) where Allen approximates Altman in terms of wit and empathy.
His treatment of female characters, of course, is forever problematic in one way or another, but this is still much better than, say, Midnight in Paris.
