Review of Hannah and Her Sisters (1986) by Ivan M — 03 May 2012
Immediately after watching this I began to look at it as one of Allen's greatest. The acting from Michael Caine, Barbara Hershey, Woody Allen and Dianne Wiest is superb. The writing is great, and the dialogue is consistently funny and interesting.
I also liked how we weren't with Woody's character throughout the whole film, which made him more of a querky side character, and it was more of a pleasure when we did see how he was getting on.
It's just really hilarious and really fun to watch. It's about an extended family, and how troublesome it is. Michael Caine's character is in love with his wife's sister. His wife's ex-husband may have a brain tumour.
Everyone in the grand scheme of things has some kind of huge problem, and it's compelling, funny and captivating. A really good movie.
