Review of Hangman's Knot (1952) by Jeff Z — 05 May 2010
Written and directed by Roy Huggins, the creator of "Maverick", "The Fugitive" and "The Rockford Files", this film has none of the appeal or interest of those TV series. Instead we get a pretty standard western with Randolph Scott leading a group of Confederate gold raiders on a raid not knowing the war is over. They become hunted by the law and others out to get that gold and make a stand in a stagecoach station.
Clem Bevins is okay as a old codger and Lee Marvin has his moments, but none of the guys chasing Scott and Marvin are anywhere near as tough as they are so its kind of a foregone conclusion.
