Review of Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982) by $Chico$ — 03 Nov 2008
Let me just begin by saying that I feel this is the last respectable film in the HALLOWEEN series. Many people are dumbfounded when they see this film and Michael Myers is not in it. Allow me to explain.
Halloween was supposed to be a stand-alone film. After audiences clamoured for more, John Carpenter and Debra Hill scripted HALLOWEEN II, thereby killing Michael Myers and ending the story. Then, they got the idea of continuing the series by making a completely different film every year or so and releasing it on Halloween.
The only result of that idea that we have is HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH, a film about a crazed man and his Halloween mask-making company who plans to kill millions of kids on Halloween night. A very entertaining film with a great '80s score by John Carpenter and Alan Howarth.
When the film came out and no one got it, the idea of making different films was canned, and HALLOWEEN 4 came out five years later. From that point on, the series became nothing but a standard slasher series.
Give this film a chance. If you didn't like it the first time, give it another chance. This film should be a cult classic.
