Review of Halloween II (1981) by Ineedausernamen — 05 Jul 2017
Critically, Halloween II is probably the most underrated of the series. While most fans have gone on to appreciate it, Halloween II's contemporary and retrospective reception has been, in both cases, underwhelming and deserving of far better.
It may not entirely live up to the original, and it may have a higher body count, and bloodier deaths, but it is just as scary as its masterful predecessor in almost every way, and when compared to other films, like Friday the 13th, Halloween II is considerably scarier and far less gory.
Regardless of the generally negative responses from critics, I do believe that Halloween II, though not one of the greatest horror films ever, may be one of the best horror films of the 80s, and ranks high on a long list of mostly contemptible slasher flicks that all rely on the same gimmicks.
Halloween II is scary. Friday the 13th and others are not. So, I think it worked.
