Review of Halloween II (1981) by Robert L — 29 Nov 2018
Obviously this sequel is bad compared to the original, but if not hold it to the high bar of its predecessor, than its not that bad, and is even pretty good in comparison with how usually horror sequels are bad actually.
It's flawed and the direction is limping; Michael Myers becomes more sadistic and somewhat loses his unexplainable motives for doing evil; all that does bad job in sustaining the terror of the unknown.
Also the supernatural element, which still in the original was just enough to create the sense of dread before the unknown, here acquires frustratingly high level. Again, if consider this sequel outside the shadow of the great original, it's quite good and has its suspenseful moments, especially towards the end, and some good camerawork and other tricks, wisely borrowed from the first film.
