Review of Halloween II (1981) by Tony P — 11 Oct 2018
What a disappointment, especially in comparison to its ground breaking prequel Halloween.
I suppose when this film was released in 1981, sequels and film franchises were a relatively new phenomenon.
The film definitely suffers from sequel syndrome.
However even when looking at the film as a lone entity it is disappointing in terms of having little horror impact.
There are only so many times you can have a camera panning behind the Michael Myers character to a synthesizer beat.
The film is not directed by John Carpenter now. He has producing and part musical input. Director duties fall to Rick Rosenthal.
It basically follows straight on from the events of Halloween. Even a few seconds footage from the end of that film appear at the beginning of this.
Jamie Lee Curtis now shares top billing with Donald Pleasence.
Lee Curtis appears visibly more mature in the 3 year gap between the films.
I rated the first film 5* but I am struggling to give this 2*!
How the franchise dragged on for relentless more sequels I will never know.
Shall I even explore any further?
