Review of Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998) by Hobie P — 05 Aug 2013
Released two years after "Scream", "Halloween H20: Twenty Years Later" knows that horror protagonists are a little wittier than they used to be. Of course, the characters do stupid things, but they drive the story and make the carnage all the more suspenseful.
The cast is star-studded, featuring the early likes of Josh Hartnett, Michelle Williams, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. And who doesn't love a cameo by Jamie Lee Curtis's mother, "Psycho" star Janet Leigh (who, in the movie, drives the car that Norman Bates buried her in)? Still, while this sequel is pretty gory, it can be pretty scary.
Played by Chris Durand, Michael Myers is angrier than ever. But this effort works best because of one reason, and that's the return of Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode. Curtis suggested the project, and it's her heroic, strong turn as Laurie that makes the movie even more entertaining.
Equipped with a clever title, "Halloween H20" is the best franchise film since the original "Halloween".
