Review of Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989) by Nathan S — 05 Aug 2013
Where "Halloween 4" was a great hit for the series and the box office, "Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers" feels a little rushed, having been released only a year after the previous film.
The script has a few plot holes and introduces a more supernatural motivation to Michael, which sometimes but not always works. Ellie Cornell returns for Rachel, but her performance is literally short-lived, and it's disappointing that her character doesn't stick around long enough.
And it doesn't help that Wendy Kaplan's Tina can be a downright nuisance. On the other hand, "Halloween 5" may be flawed but it still entertains. The suspense scenes are action-packed, there's some good gore, The Shape is still intimidating, the presence of Danielle Harris and Donald Pleasence is always welcome, and Alan Howarth's music can still hold a candle to Carpenter's classically chilling themes.
