Review of Halloween (2018) by Elpaisa24 . — 01 Nov 2018
The Halloween franchise finally receives the sequel it deserved years ago and does a "soft reboot" in the process. For the hardcore fans, you must forget any sequels after the original 1978 version (most of them crappy) because this takes place 40 years after the the first film. This horror slasher is a nice throwback to some of the good horror flicks of the late 70s and early 80s. Yes it has cliches, but have you ever seen a horror movie where people DON'T make stupid decisions and end up dead? It goes hand in hand with the genre.
The movie is surprisingly not as gory as I thought it would be, but that helps in this instance, because it gives more impact and feeling to the eventual gory scenes. The plot is also straight to the point: paranoid, but badass NRA loving Jamie Lee Curtis (doing her best Terminator 2 Sarah Connor impression) and her family vs Michael Myers while many victims get in the way. People who love "over the top home invasion defense" scenes will love this too. The soundtrack was good too which makes sense given its the same production company as the Purge, Sinister, Insidious, and Conjuring films.
Always been more of a fan of Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street but this was a good horror flick to watch on Halloween or in a dark room with your (jumpy) significant other. Enjoy. Final Review: 7 out of 10. Rental worthy unless you're a hardcore fan.
