Review of Halloween (2018) by David W — 25 Oct 2018
I never thought I'd say this but the Rob Zombie version is better than this movie. While it got a lot wrong, that version got some things right as well and at least tried some new things (which people shit on it for doing).
This movie doesn't try anything new and unlike the original movies at a snails pace allowing John Carpenter to cover up a few of the scripts weaknesses. This new version moving at a slow pace allow thoughts to creep into my head like how does Michael Myers know how to drive? Or read? Having been locked up most of his life he would have the education of a 6 year old.
6 year old kids barely know their ABC's let alone read. Having been locked up the past 40 years he'd be unfamiliar with new technological advances. People have security systems now ...well except most of the people in this town.
You'd think that a town famous for the "baby sitter murders" would have most of the citizens with security systems. I'd wager that the folks in TexArkana sure do. The problem with this movie is that it needs people to be stupid to advance the plot and allow Michael Myers to go on a killing spree.
The most egregious thing the movie does is try to emphasize the randomness of the killings. Really? REALLY? Then why the fuck does Michael Myers go back to Hadenville and try to kill Laurie Strode again.
The script is so stupid that it doesn't realize it is negating it's own premise.
