Review of Halloween (2018) by Gawin A — 18 Oct 2018
Loved it! Had the same old vibe from the 70's and 80's without the now-perceived-corny-feel. Of course the Halloween iconic score is a given with the sounds of the haunting piano melody. Even the intro of the movie was shot in the original style. The font blur and the slow close up of the intro jack o lantern. I truly felt I was watching a sequel instead of a shitty "The Last Jedi" type BS that felt so out of story I still complain about it in my sleep. Ok back to Halloween...
Jamie Lee Curtis was amazing!!! A real badass! Her and Sarah Connor probably went to the same boot camp. Ha! She has a plan and wants to end this nightmare but still has that fear that's been haunting her all these years. What great acting I tell ya.
The suspense of Michael Myers still exist and well played. Him being behind a door, in the hallway or under the bed still works. The music, sound fx, lighting, acting just makes all that suspense even better! I still held my breath several times throughout the movie.
Finally the gore has been pumped up to today's violence. Not saying blood and gore is required but it sure does make it better. CGI helped in that department but didn't ruin it like a low budget TV show.
The story is pretty straight forward and well produced without boredom. A must-see for horror fans. Go see it this weekend!
