Review of Halloween (2018) by Kristen L — 21 Oct 2018
As a fan of the Halloween movie franchise this was a total disappointment for me. They omitted nearly everything that made Halloween, Halloween. Omitted every movie but the 1st one, down played Michael Meyers back story/history/legacy like he only had 5 kills on his record like it was just a random babysitter thing and he's been completely dormat for 40 yrs since.
Then they took away the sibling backstory of him and Laurie which always gave the Halloween franchise it's depth/storyline. It seemed like his escape and finding laurie was simply opportunistic and not him actually obsessively and purposely hunting her down which is another thing that gave this franchise storyline/depth.
It just lacked everything that made the Halloween franchise worthy of being a cult horror franchise for me. It also seemed strange for Laurie to spend 40 yrs prepping for him to come for her when they downplay it all like a random babysitter attack and no other kills since for that length of time.
Without the sibling history, other escapes and kills it seemed out of place and again, like him escaping now and finding laurie and her family was purely opportunistic only, like he just stumbled upon them and it was all just coincidence.
I think they had a great idea with showing laurie's ptsd, her survival instincts/final stand but it doesnt work when you take away all the substance that would make all that necessary. I had high hopes for this but now I'm just left frustrated.
