Halloween. I have seen many of the 11 movies that exist. Eleven. I'll say that I don't get this film. I DO get that Hollywood is set up to make money and this IMHO was a clear attempt to cash on the name and nothing else. I have seen MANY MANY horror movies and feel like especially when you have a historical franchise like this there are SOME rules to keep consistent. I am not stating that this is some Rian Johnsonization of the Halloween name but it still lacks what the originals did seem to address better. This will contain spoilers about plot (box has been checked). I think anyone can look around and or read other reviews and get the general plot. I knew the gist before I even saw this. But I'll get right into the plot holes I had issue with. Any horror movie has dumb actions but I feel like Cabin in the Woods (except that ending tho) set a bar for what the Horror genre should ask itself. 1) Why did we need the reporters or that opening scene. Verbal exposition for a movie is genrally lazy (Cinemasins anyone) 2) So Jamie Lee Curtis (great actress and resume) [JLC] has a house in the woods somewhere with fairly advanced security (cameras, lighting, motion sensors, hidden basement with supplies) and dealing with PTSD (handled better in Halloween II) why would she entertain reports that clearly did not address her (call, text, email AnYTHING) why they would be coming? 3) Enter JLC's Daughter and granddaughter. Clearly the Mom (Judy Greer) is somewhat accomplished and the daughter (Andi Matichak) smart. Can we explore their rift more movie?

4) Micheal Myers is clearly well known and he is just in some medium level institution about to get transferred because ya know small towns don't ever remember all the issues and murders or surviving family (like the movie lazily attempted to show the stress and burden going on with JLC) members may have.

5) the Killing starts and the "tension" mounts but after 4 (that's four) people get murdered in the same place there is NO (like NONE) warnings, Amber alerts, tweets, local carrier pigeons in said town that 40 years ago had a killing spree on Halloween that NO ONE seems to remember or act like they care. Happy Halloween everyone!!! Yay!!!

I could go on but I think the general gist of this film is the BS that is Hollywood and it's still clearly working. For the folks that gave this movie 10s I don't know what you watched but perhaps you work for Universal Pics and were volun-told to spread the word or your a family member of David Allan Green IDK. This is the trash that is the trend in these remake type films that gets on my nerves enough to voice my opinion. It only gets a 3 because I felt like JLC performance kept the movie afloat (still suffered from bad pacing but...) Andy Matichak did a good job as well in the least to further the narrative but the ending then felt like they tossed her aside as to forcibly pit Micheal v. JLC. Judy Greer was ok but didn't seem to push our sensibilities into believe that she had a REAL divide and change in parental direction that I think the movie wanted us to feel. And about that. Remember there have been 11 movies. ELEVEN. IDK if we need to get into the Infinity Gauntlet like powers of H2O or even 4(Revenge; Paul Rudd is prolly still shaking his damn head) but this film seemed to make M&M strong but not invicible (didn't he get shot by the house?). Soooooooooooooooo you have a we'll say 55 y/o F that is supposed to contend with an older Micheal (that old man strength can be deceiving believe you and me) that has been holed up in a house making rennovations at the most that is getting tossed around and still surviving? OH and YOU DIDN'T EVEN TRY TO SHOOT HIM absolutely dead despite being obsessed and reeling and preparing for the ONE nemesis that you spent 40 YEARS trying to prepare for the one instance/circumstance that he did escape and try to find you. Would she not want to riddle him with ALL of the guns and ammo she had at her disposal (mostly close range mind you despite being clearly disadvantaged even if not hurt but do you see why I had an issue with this film) I mean like WASTE him as if you're playing GTA5 and you had to rage quit because the instance before some noob cheaply killed you. And then have her daughter shoot him as well while filming the instructional vid to hand down to her granddaughter and expect it to be passed down for generations?

That's HISHE.

My $0.
