Review of Halloween (2018) by Chris F — 22 Oct 2018
I was very excited about this film. After watching it, I was slightly disappointed.
I think the final girl sequence was average to below average at worst. it was not bad in terms of when the danger comes, no cheap jump scare, but you knew where it was coming, just not when. it was predictable.
Also, I have major qualms with the whole "survivor bunker" aspect to the final girl sequence. The thing I love about the final girl scene is that it is an average girl, put into extraordinary situation, and through her wit and ability to adapt, she becomes a survivor. this movie obviously wanted to tell the story of what happens to a person after such a traumatic event happens in their life. but her making a bunker, and (spoiler) essentially waiting for Michael to arrive at her house with booby traps and stuff really took away from that average girl overcoming the odds and surviving the mass killing.
The kills were creative, I like that there is no rhyme or reason to why Michael myers kills (family, a satanic cult, etc.), he's just pure evil. too many Halloween easter eggs.
Overall, it was solid, but not spectacular. I was not blown away, nor did I felt scared or saw something different. I wouldn't say it was a waste of money, I just maybe need to lower my expectations in horror films.
