Review of Halloween (2007) by Tommy S — 25 Jul 2012
Let's keep in mind that this is my first encounter with a Halloween movie of any kind, or a Rob Zombie film of any kind for that matter. So I went into the Rio Cinema on Broadway last night ready to lose my cinematic virginity on two fronts.
Was the movie good? Yeah, to an extent. Rob Zombie captured the 70's motif really well I thought. His Michael was a formidable, unstoppable monster unlike any I've seen before. (I don't watch a lot of horror though.) I found myself peering through the fence of my fingers whenever the music told me something horrible was coming. The child cast as Michael will haunt my dreams with his stringy blonde hair forever, and the babes, for the most part, were babes.
What didn't I like? I think perhaps next time Rob Zombie should collaborate with someone on his script, 'cause his dialogue sucks. I don't care what horror movies used to be, but horror movies now should be able to get by without laughable dialogue. I also think that there were tons of set ups for the explanation of Michael's psychosis and motivation, but they were never explained.
Overall, a damn good horror I'd say, with no possibility of a sequel. The way it should be.
