Review of Halloween (2007) by Brandon R — 22 Nov 2013
Zombie displays his signature style during Michael's origin story but seems to lose his nerve halfway through the film. Once Michael returns to Haddonfield and catches sight of a teenaged Laurie Strode you may as well shut this off and put the original in.
I could forgive the cookie-cutter second half if not for some obviously rotten casting and the contrived, nauseatingly giddy dialogue of Laurie Strode and her uninteresting, airhead clique. Wife Sheri Moon Zombie's flat performance as Michael's mother is laughable and a serious detriment to the film.
This gratuitous, overly-vulgar slasher flick is a far cry from the craft and imagination that cemented the original into the canon of pop culture.
