Review of Halloween (2007) by Deven P — 01 Nov 2018
When Rob Zombie asked John Carpenter if he could remake Carpenter's 1978 classic Halloween, Carpenter said yes, and told Zombie to make it his own film. Well, it started off that way, but it's basically a prequel and remake in one movie.
The first half is just an unnecessary backstory that gives Myers too much humanity, and takes away his pure evilness, and the second half is just an overly violent rehash of the original. It's not really scary so much as it is kind of disturbing at times, and it pales in comparison to the original.
It's pretty bad for the most part, but it's not terrible. It's actually one of the better horror movie remakes I've seen. Michael wasn't scary, Laurie didn't work for me considering Jamie Lee Curtis' excellent portrayal.
I did, however, like Malcolm McDowell's performance as Dr. Loomis. It may not be comparable to Donald Pleasance's performance, but it was pretty good I think. Overall, Halloween is just a remake.
It's pretty bad compared to the original, and I wish, in some ways, that it didn't exist.
