Review of Hail Mary (1985) by Mec R — 29 Feb 2008
For a film so vilified and condemned by the Vatican, I was expecting something a bit more contentious. But I guess they can be really touchy about this. This is not one of Godard's best films, though he does do some interesting things with cutting in and out of the music, as well as images of the sun and moon.
An interesting humanization of the virgin birth story. However, Godard's unique editing style doesn't work as effectively in this film as in most of his earlier work.
