Review of Hail Mary (1985) by Jesse M — 20 Oct 2009
Godard is an auteur, THE auteur, and therefore his movies are so unique and individual to him that you can't separate his own voice from what you see. If you know his 80s onward voice you know his style consists of a quirky graphical and aural organization of random shit.
By random shit I mean whatever slogans, quips, or philosophies are in his head are framed by slogans and filled up with vague characters and abstract stories meant to solely represent whatever random shit he thinks up.
Can you really rate this kind of 'movie' as good or bad? Can you rate a man's thoughts? Maybe or maybe not... I can tell you 'Detective' 'Hail Mary' and "Prenom Carmen' are better than this collection of thoughts can ever be.
