Review of Hacksaw Ridge (2016) by Josh A — 20 Feb 2017
It is a story worth telling, and its focus on individualism and adherence to one's principles is its biggest positive. Gibson will undoubtedly be taking shots for his apparent tendency to glorify war and violence, although I feel like those complaints about Hacksaw are misdirected; The brutality of its battle scenes serve more to demonstrate the horrors of war and bolster its pacifist hero's main ideology.
The film's faults lie in its heavy-handedness and especially sappy intro and conclusion, which serve to weaken its realism.
