Review of Hacksaw Ridge (2016) by Jack D — 08 May 2017
Hacksaw Ridge is the best movie of 2016 without question. Mel Gibson returns to the director's seat after a whole decade by telling the extraordinary true story of Desmond T. Doss. Doss was a conscientious objector and a seventh day adventist.
He enlisted to serve in WWII during the Battle of Okinawa. Doss refuses to kill people or even carry a gun. He goes into battle as a medic and only wants to save people. If you think Mel Gibson may have softened up a little bit after being away for a while, I would think again if I were you.
The battle scenes in Hacksaw Ridge are among the most intense and graphic captured on film. Arguably one upping the infamous D-Day sequence in Saving Private Ryan. This is more than just a comeback for Gibson.
I truly believe he has made one of the all-time great war films. I have no doubt this will become a classic war movie. Hacksaw Ridge is a must see.
