Review of Gunga Din (1939) by Jeremy F — 18 Sep 2008
Like Yojimbo is to A Fistful Of Dollars, a highly accepted director to this movie, completely remade it without changing much more than 25% of the story, and in the process made millions of future dollars whilst meeting his wife, though at LEAST this guy had the decency to do it with a sequel in a trilogy instead of the very first one like Leone had...
Also, you gotta consider that the writer of "Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Doom" was the true culprit in that particular case of shenanigans and tom foolery. Spielberg may not have even ever seen the movie Lucas plagiarized, or at least did not remember the thing at that time! So all is well that ends well, or some cliche bullshit saying like that, and at least the results spawned the greatest Indiana Jones movie ever made... unless you count "Raiders Of The Lost Ark"... or The Last Crusade... or that Young Indiana Jones television series... or even Kingdom Of The Crystal Sku- Nevermind... So there you go. Plagiarism equals a movie that's better than a bad television spin-off and an off-beat fourth sequel made years later... COMBINED!
Oh and did I neglect to mention it's about three guys halting the resurrection of one most ancient "Thuggee cult" that once plagued the lands of India, or have I just been ranting again? Tend to do that a bunch. Who knows! I've probably never seen this film...
