Review of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967) by Matt M — 30 Mar 2013
A liberal couple put their ideologies to the test when their daughter comes home with her fiancé, a black man. Billed as a modern love story, this film became a symbol of its times concerning the racial conflict in the US and the shock of the recent Martin Luther King assassination.
Guess Who's Coming To Dinner carried a clear message to mainstream cinema audiences and found added depth in the great performances by Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, the latter on his last ever on-screen appearance, and signing off on a brilliant career with a high point in the final speech of this film.
