Review of Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967) by Greg D — 09 Feb 2012
For what it was meant to accomplish as a social problem melodrama, I would say the script was well written enough to say mission accomplished. Poitier is the always convincing victim of race allegations but where this film is slightly different is the role reversal with the white woman he intends to marry also becoming a victim.
Sure the ending is sappy and eventually the interracial couple gets the approval of all four of their parents, however the tone of the film overall wasn't going to allow that to happen. So, like I said, mission accomplished.
