Review of Green Zone (2010) by David N — 30 Jul 2011
It just didn't particularly hold my interest, despite the pedigree and the clear hard work by star and director. Ideologically its heart is in the right place, but Brian Helgeland's script is so issue-focussed at the expense of character that for all Damon's typically effortless charisma, the film never receives the booster shot of movie magic it desperately needs.
Even as an pure actioner, it feels a bit dull, and while the Greengrass verità (C) style is never anything but convincing it works against the narrative experience to some degree here. Relevant and cutting in its own way, but a dip in quality for its infinitely more capable creative team.
