Review of Green Room (2016) by Andrew M — 15 Jul 2016
Not what I was expecting, and much better for it. Basic setup is a punk band performs on short notice for a white supremacist group (their original gig having been cancelled). After their set, they inadvertently witness a murder the group is attempting to cover up, and are forced to take refuge in the green room while the group contemplates how to continue their cover up.
It supplies good suspense and while there are some very gory scenes they actually serve the plot well and aren't over done. Anton Yelchin and Patrick Stewart are both very good here. Despite the subject matter it even manages to get in a few uncomfortable and not at all forced laughs.
It's certainly not a pleasant movie, and ergo not for everyone, but it is a solid suspense thriller.
