Review of Gravity (2013) by Nick A — 23 Jan 2015
Of course she had a daughter who died. Of course nobody "taught" her how to pray. (Of course she actually says that aloud.) Of course she hallucinates/imagines the so-convenient-it-must-be-Hollywood return of a colleague whose suggestions strike within her a realization that saves her life and enables the film to continue.
Alfonso Cuaron creates an unprecedented visual account of space with unprecedented directorial acumen in an exclusively animated environment, but the script's contrivances are glaring and vast and nearly scene-to-scene -- and deflate the entire experience.
