When I first heard about Grave Encounters I was very excited. I'm a sucker for mockumentaries/handheld cam films and Grave Encounters looked promising. However, in the long run, Grave Encounters never rises past its interesting premise.
What holds Grave Encounters back is its shoddy acting, predictable scares, and some questionable editing. If you can look past these downfalls though, you may be able to enjoy Grave Encounters for what it is.
What Grave Encounters is, is an indie horror movie aiming to make a noise in the sea of handheld horror films. When it works, Grave Encounters introduces some interesting ideas to the haunted house formula that make it worth the watch.
