Review of Grave Encounters 2 (2012) by Tash D — 03 May 2013
There's very little original about this film. The idea of doing a meta-sequel to a found footage horror film is interesting, but the execution is largely a hodge-podge of sequences cropped from well-known found footage predecessors.
Scenes from "The Blair Witch Project", "Paranormal Activity" and "[REC]" are recreated meticulously, not in a way that feels like homage so much as theft. There is a fairly bravura twist around the one hour mark that nearly saves the film, but since it mainly serves to prolong the experience for another half hour, it's not enough to win anyone over.
