Review of Grand Hotel (2008) by Steve S — 14 Mar 2011
***1/2 (out of four).
The Best Picture Academy Award winning film from 1932. Though quite good, it probably won the ceveted award more for shere star power and oppulence than for being actually the best filmof the years (which it isn't).
The plot is really one big soap opera with some huge stars thrown in like Greta Garbo, Lionel and John Barrymore. It follows the various romances and plots taking place at a fancy Grand Hotel.
The film is grand indeed with wonderful cinematography.
