Review of Good Night, and Good Luck. (2005) by Steven P — 13 Aug 2011
The actual story behind this film was fascinating: something that had a lot of modern-day parallels and a story that I think really needed to be related to a mainstream audience. The reason I'm only giving it three stars is that I felt the film was too self-important; there were rather a lot of Sorkin-esque monologues on the importance of broadcast media that were playing to the back row a little too nakedly, and I didn't really see the need for the film to have been shot in black and white, other than to remind us at all times that this was a Very Important Film.
It was almost like they didn't trust the audience to get the message if they'd done it in colour, and that irritated me.
