Review of Good Night, and Good Luck. (2005) by Jowana B — 02 Feb 2012
Edmund Burke is often quoted for his observation, âAll that is required for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing.â? Edward R. Murrow is a good man because he did something to prevent a rising evil. He went up against Joseph McCarthy and his communist witch-hunt despite pressure from the advertisers and his bosses. Character actor David Strathairn delivered a Oscar-nominated performance in this black-and-white behind the newsroom drama. The rest of the cast delivered first-rate performances including George Clooney, who did double duty as an actor and director. Working in a political environment, I usually pop Mr. Smith Goes to Washington once a month as part of a self-detoxification routine from surrounding doubt and distrust. In the future, this regular self-medication will include Good Night and Good Luck to purge thoughts on our mephitic media.
RATING: A-.
