Review of Good Morning, Vietnam (1987) by Jamie E — 18 Aug 2014
Robin Williams gives both an incredibly funny and at times wacky performance in a film that is not too bad either. While it may have some slow scenes and I never really felt any potential in the rushed relationship William's character Adrian Cronauer forms with a vietnamese woman, the film definitely has moments.
The best scenes are of course when William's is using his talented voice to perform some extraordinary monlogues and comedic speeches, however this sometimes also hurts the film as nothing else really stands a chance.
Other than the goofy Edward Garlick played wonderfully by Forest Whitacker, I never really care about anyone else aside from Cronauer. Williams steals the show and I just want to see more of it. The film though does get its plot done well and with some nice action scenes and twists it definitely does not feel predictable.
Also the feud between the superiors and Cronauer works brilliantly with William's unique and interjucting comedy. Good Morning Vietnam, is a good film and Williams and Whitacker give superb performances however ultimately thats all I want to see, I never seem to care about the war in Vietnam or really how much Adrian is loved, because I am myself in awe of his hilarious touch.
