Review of Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) by Jamie E — 09 Feb 2015
Anchorman sometimes can feel a little too cartoonish or cheesy to make it an intelligent and completely satisfying film but what it gets right is in it's hilarious one liners and out of the blue random acts.
Will Ferrell's performance is incredible and the role seems to be tailor made for him and may be his career highlight. His ability to act out some very comedic scenes but also to add a sense of emotion to the film plays in well with the other actors who really make this film what it is.
Steve Carrells character is by far the funniest with nearly every single line he has being a hit, sadly he and the other 2 new team members played by Paul Rudd and David Koechner do not get a lot of character development and without their comedic dialogue I would say they were made a waste.
However the relationship between Ron and Christina Applegate's Veronica is developed at a good pace and does not seem silly, which is weird seeming the film's style. Vince Vaughn and the other new station members however neither get a lot of screen time or any real funny dialogue and they seem to just be in the movie to add another sub-plot which again really is not needed.
The plot in whole is very straight forward but seems to be able to hold the audience though it can feel a little predictable and near the end some scenes are just too long. Anchorman works as a comedy and maybe a fest of one liners, it wont be known for much character development, beside Ron Burgundy, but it has enough audience appeal to be likeable for years to come.
