Review of Good (2008) by Stephen Y — 09 Jun 2012
Although the critics were right to say it seemed staged I think this was intentional. The central character is a man bewildered by his times caught up in things he really cannot understand, although I'm not sure that a member of the SS (sorry 'honorary' member as he always likes to point out.
) could be quite so 'unknowing' by 1942 There were however members of the SS who were indeed aghast at the 'final solution' and who became whistleblowers - alas too late. It is a thought-provoking study of a man who did not make bad decisions but who simply failed to make real decisions at all by a process I suppose of constant prevarication .
