Review of Gone with the Wind (1939) by Jerome K — 11 Nov 2011
I can't believe I was able to get through the whole thing. At 3 hour, 58 minutes, this is the longest film I've ever seen and one of the few that actually had an intermission. Yeah, that is a long running time, but in my opinion every minute was essential.
There were very few moments that dragged. I was surprised at how much soap opera the film contained. So many emotions and events happen in the story; how could you not find the film engaging? I was also amazed at the quality of the acting and direction of a film from 1939.
It really deserves the 8 Oscars it earned that year. Obviously, if you don't like melodramas or have the patience to watch something for 4 hours, this may not be the movie for you. Otherwise, everyone should take the chance to see this sometime in their life.
