Review of Gone with the Wind (1939) by Ryan P — 04 Jan 2013
Ugh. Although this vibrant colored film truly looks beautiful (especially for audiences first seeing this in 1939), it just left me cold. Scarlett O'Hara is one of the worst protagonists in film history - she's bratty, selfish, violent, and her obsession with Ashley Wilkes is repetitively dull and foolish.
The first hour in particular drags on slowly and for an almost-four hour film, not much of significance actually happens. Even with Clark Gable trying his damnedest to make this interesting, these characters and this script underwhelmed me.
