Review of Gone with the Wind (1939) by Steven H — 03 Apr 2012
At almost four hours long including the 15-minute intermission. As not one sequence was boring and exciting from start to finish. A young girl named Scarlett O'Hara (Vivien Leigh) who is in love Ashley Wilkes (Leslie Howard) who is to marry his cousin Melanie Hamilton (Olivia DeHallivand). Captain Rhett Butler (Clark Gable) has been after her for 12 years and attempting these years to win his heart. A great twist at the ending when it took Scarlett 12 years to finally find her true love which is Rhett; but Rhett leaves her for good after giving up.
This is a sensational film in terms of motion picture history as it did break the rules of profanity ("Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn") which influenced many directors and films in the years to come to use profanity although unfortunately profane in television and film can be really unnecessary. Gone with the Wind tells us the messages of the fear of the American Civil War, the burning of Atlanta; how romance for Scarlett doesn't turn up at first sight - and doesn't realise what her true passion is.
Gone with the Wind will go down in history to being one of the greatest movies of all-time - and it SURE is.
