Review of Gone Girl (2014) by Alessandro F — 26 Nov 2016
What a rollercoaster this movie was! I love Fincher, but he definitely exceeded expectations with Gone Girl. This compelling and entertraining thriller had me on the edge of my seat for all of its running time, and there was never a dull scene nor a predictable one.
The two leads were perfectly cast: even though I don't really like Ben Affleck, he was the perfect choice for the role, since he was able to convey the feeling of uneasiness of his character and its inability ro properly show his feelings.
And what can I say about Rosamund Pike? She gave life to an extremely complex character with dedication, and she ultimately outshines everyone else. An amazing screenplay, full of unexpected twists, adapted from an even more amazing novel and cleverly written dialogue, together with a fittingly dark score all add up to create an incredible picture that serves also as a commentary upon the power of media and the nature of modern marriage.
