Review of Gone Girl (2014) by Bunnie S — 28 Jul 2018
This is a ridiculous film pretending to be a deep psychological thriller with drama that's totally staged and acting that's as phony as can be. I'm thinking the filmmakers saw this as some kind of commentary on the gross pathologies of our culture and time, twisted and inhuman in many ways, but it just comes across as manipulative and shallow.
Ben Affleck and others seem to be moving through scenes half-asleep, and when they do wake up enough to show emotion it's laughably fake. The final act is absurd and obnoxious. But that fits well with the rest of this insult to an audience's intelligence.
